- study in medicine at Plovdiv Medical Institute in Bulgaria (extinction for excellent results)

- 1990-1994 postgraduate studies in the Dept. of Metabolic Diseases and Lipid Research (Director Prof. M. Hanefeld), Medical Academy in Dresden, Germany

- 1992 study-visit to the Lipid Laboratory of the Royal Infirmary in Glasgow, U.K. (Prof. J. Shepherd and Prof. Ch. Packard), specialising lipoprotein fractionation and compositional analysis.

- in February 1994 finished PhD thesis on the topic “Abnormalities in lipoprotein subfractions in type 2 diabetes mellitus” in the Medical Academy in Dresden, Germany

1995-2000 medical doctor in the Institute of Metabolic Research, Medical Faculty Dresden. Investigator in many trials on antidiabetics, antihypertensives, lipid lowering drugs.

- 1996 study-visit to the General Hospital Vienna, Austria (Prof. Ehringer), specialising in ultrasound examination of the vessel system.

- in November 2000 successfully finished the second PhD thesis on “Determinants of intima-media-thickness and atherosclerotic plaques in a risk population for diabetes mellitus. Relevance of the peroxisome proliferator activated receptor-2-Pro12Ala-polymorphism”.

2001 – 2004 scientific manager/doctor in Centre for Clinical Studies, Science and Technology Transfer, Technical University Dresden. Principal investigator and/or coordinator of many international studies on diabetes such as RECORD, DREAM, STARR, NAVIGATOR, ADVANCE etc.

2002-2003 lecturer in metabolic diseases in the Institute of Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy, Technical University Dresden, Germany

September 2002 foundation of the “Robert Koch” German Medical center in Sofia, Bulgaria

November 2002 specialising duplex examination of the carotids in the Population Health Research Institute, McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada

since 02.2004 president of the Association of early detection and treatment of socially relevant diseases (AROLSZ) in Bulgaria
